Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has met with Julia Przyłębska, the President of the Constitutional Tribunal of Poland, to discuss the prospects of cooperation.

It was noted at the meeting that Poland is considered to be the main strategic partner in the region, with whom Lithuania enjoys an exceptionally close relationship. 2018 is a particular year, as Poland is about to mark the centennial of its independence (on November 11), while Lithuania celebrated this occasion on February 16.
It was recalled that last May Vilnius hosted a joint event to highlight the significance of the 3 May 1791 Constitution of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth on the development of constitutional law in our two countries as well as Europe and the world. Appreciation was expressed for the intense 20-year old cooperation between the Constitutional Court of Lithuania and the Constitutional Tribunal of Poland.

The Prime Minister stressed Lithuania's interest in a constructive dialogue between Poland and the European Commission. The situation developing in Poland as regards the European Commission's recommendations in relation to the rule of law is being closely monitored. According to Mr Skvernelis, opportunities for dialogue between the European Commission and Poland have not been exhausted and a joint solution is still possible.
