The Government has decided to allocate EUR 100 000 for the State of Pennsylvania, the USA. The allocated funds will be used to purchase Lithuania-made protective equipment for Pennsylvania’s medical staff and other key-workers involved in daily life-saving  operations.

The U.S. unfortunately happens to be the worst-hit state in the world.

‘As the pandemic continues, we show solidarity with Americans by providing support to U.S. medical staff and other key-workers involved in life-saving operations. We reaffirm the need to strengthen the transatlantic ties, which are indispensable in ensuring the security of Lithuania and of the entire region’, said Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis.

Lithuania and the state of Pennsylvania have enjoyed long-standing and very close relations. The 27 year-long cooperation between the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the Pennsylvania National Guard (PANG) is a perfect example of our durable partnership with the United States.

In the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, Lithuania has already provided humanitarian aid to Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Moldova, Sakartvelo and China (through the International Committee of the Red Cross). The Government has also approved of the proposal to fund research into a coronavirus vaccine and it has supported other initiatives too.
