Prime Minister has paid a visit to Hiratsuka city

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has paid a visit to Hiratsuka Athletics Stadium, were he has taken part at a celebration held in honour of the Lithuanian Olympic and Paralympic teams and has addressed the participants of the event.   

Lithuania has been much popularised in Hiratsuka City and the entire Kanagawa Prefecture, with Hiratsuka often called to be the most ‘Lithuanian’ location in Japan. Hiratsuka is the host city for the Lithuanian team of Tokyo Olympics 2020.      

‘We are glad that the Lithuanian Olympic team will find its home here in Hiratsuka City during Tokyo 2020. It offers us an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about Lithuania in Japan and vice versa before and during the Olympics, and to consolidate mutual understanding between our people’, said Saulius Skvernelis during the sports festival at Shonan BMW Stadium Hiratsuka.   
The first camp of the Lithuanian athletes was held in Hiratsuka in October 2017, with 20 athletes participating. The Prime Minister has thanked the Hiratsuka City Mayor for the attention to Lithuania and good conditions created for the Lithuanian athletes. The Prime Minister has wished the Lithuanian athletes success in competitions to be qualified for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and has encouraged them to fulfil their dreams and bring home victories.
