On behalf of the Government and the people of Lithuania, Prime Minister Saulius Svernelis has extended sincere congratulations to Boris Johnson on his appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, along with the wishes for every success in the new duties.

‘I am confident that the close partnership between Lithuania and the United Kingdom, based on common transatlantic values, will continue to progress during your term in office. We attach great importance to the essential contribution of the United Kingdom to the security of the North-eastern flank of the NATO Alliance. I hope to deepen the strategic cooperation between our countries on a wide range of security and defence issues. Lithuania is ready to be your trustworthy partner in working closely with you to keep the relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom as close as possible after the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union’, reads Prime Minister’s letter.

The Prime Minister has suggested arranging the Northern Future Forum meeting in Vilnius in the near future. These meetings are intended for discussions on innovative economy between the Prime Ministers of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) and the UK, and have been held ever since 2011.
