Today, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius accepted Christian Verdonck, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium, whose term of office in Lithuania is approaching its end. Discussions of the meeting featured events, important to Lithuania, Belgium and the entire Europe, which took place during the term of office of the Ambassador, cooperation of both countries, and opinions on relevant topics.

The implementation of the EU Third Energy Package for the electricity sector is finalised

The Government adopted a resolution thereby approving actions necessary to conclude separation of activities of transmission of electricity from its generation and supply. Pursuant to the Government’s resolution, provisions of the Law on Energy of the Republic of Lithuania are being implemented in order to transpose the requirements of the third energy package of the European Union. As soon as the actions envisaged by the Government are performed, the implementation of the EU third energy package for the electricity sector will be completed already this year.

Profit of SOEs soared 3.5 times in 2011

The results of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) keep improving: the net profit of SOEs (including special taxes to the State) amounted to LTL 246.6 million in 2011, which was 3.5 times more than the previous year (this sum excludes losses of LTL 182 million due to the bankruptcy of the Bank Snoras).
