Acting Prime Minister Met with Director of Mitsubishi Corporation

Today Acting Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius met with the delegation of the Executive Committee of the EU-Japan Fest headed by Kazuo Tsukuda, President of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Mr Tsukuda mentioned the joint concert performed by the Japanese and Lithuanian children’s choirs at Saint Catherine’s church as a fine example of increasing cultural ties between Lithuania and Japan.
Acting Prime Minister A. Kubilius told the President of the Mitsubishi Corporation that Japan holds a deep fascination for Lithuania not only for its culture, but also for its great economic achievements, and expressed his strong that there could be more direct business contacts. Andrius Kubilius invited Japanese business delegation to take part in the Asia-Europe Business Forum under the framework of the first ASEM Transport minister’s meeting to be held in Vilnius on 19 October this year.
A. Kubilius informed the President of the Mitsubishi Corporation, the world’s leading manufacturer of nuclear reactors, about Lithuania’s plans and preparations for the construction of a new nuclear power plant in place of the Soviet-designed Ignalina NPP scheduled for closure by 2009. Mr Tsukuda said his corporation was interested in the project that is strategically important to Lithuania.
