Chancellor of the Government: I invite the Japanese business and people to discover Lithuania

The Chancellor of the Government Algirdas Stončaitis met with the representatives of Japan Business Federation Keidanren to discuss the prospect of economic cooperation and presented investment opportunities in Lithuania.

The Chancellor of the Government thanked, on behalf of the Prime Minister, for the special attention devoted to Lithuania and expressed his satisfaction that the visit of the delegation is a result of cooperation between Lithuania and Japan which is becoming more and more intense.

It was emphasised in the meeting that Japan is the main partner of Lithuania in Asia, both countries share common approach to values and global challenges. Lithuania supported Japan's candidature when voting for the right to host 2020 summer Olympic games and 2025 World Expo.

'I am delighted that Lithuania declared 2020 the year of Chiune Sugihara. Interest in the heritage of Chiune Sugihara is increasing, it attracts more and more tourists from Japan. I would like to emphasise in this regard the strong involvement of the Japanese embassy in Vilnius and contribution of H. E. Shiro Yamasaki, Ambassador of Japan to Lithuania, to the strengthening of practical cooperation between Lithuania and Japan,' said Algirdas Stončaitis.

The participants noted that the economic and trading partnership between Lithuania and Japan is intense and dynamic. Since 2010 bilateral trade turnover has increased by almost tenfold. Lithuania sees the greatest potential for further cooperation and promotes further development of investment projects in the fields of information and communication technologies (ICT), financial technologies (FinTech), science and innovation, life sciences, defence industry, etc.

Keidanren unites approx. 1.6 thousand of Japanese business entities; the delegation to Lithuania is made of management representatives from 14 worldwide renown Japanese companies: Sumitomo, Mitsubishi, TEPCO, Hitachi, Japan Airlines, etc.
