Today, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Marowiecki have had a telephone conversation regarding the import ban on Lithuanian pork and pigs, introduced last December.

“We have agreed that the problem needs to be addressed in principle, therefore, consultations and negotiation process is launched. In the near future, the agriculture ministers of both countries will meet up and they will be joined, if necessary, by the heads of the services directly responsible for the sector”, said Prime Minister Skvernelis.

Today, the requirements and conditions of the bilateral trade in live pigs have also been discussed by the Director of the State Food and Veterinary Service, Darius Remeika, in his meeting with the Polish counterpart, Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Paweł Niemczuk. The meeting between the agriculture ministers should take place later this week in Berlin. The final decision on the resumption of the trade in question should be taken by the Polish minister of agriculture.
