Deividas Matulionis, First Deputy Chancellor of the Government, is on official visit to Canada on on 29-31 May.  He is also taking part in Open Government Partnership Global Summit 2019.

‘Lithuania joined the initiative ‘Open Government Partnership’ as early as 2014. We are for greater openness of government activities to the public and more transparent business-to-state relations with a view to combatting corruption and money laundering more effectively. Lithuania also attaches great importance to the topic of this global forum - protection of democracy against the manipulation in social networks, and against fake news’, said Matulionis.

The government official has met with David Morrison, Foreign and Defence Policy Advisor to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to discuss bilateral relations and issues of international relevance.

Deividas Matulionis has thanked the Canadian Government for its significant contribution in strengthening security in the entire Baltic region. In May this year, a large-scale military exercise took place in Latvia, involving military forces from more than ten NATO countries. Canada has been leading the NATO’s Forward Presence Battalion since June 2017. Thanks have also been expressed for strengthening the transatlantic link between the EU and the US and Canada.

Later on, Deividas Matulionis met with Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pamela Goldsmith - Jones.
