The Cabinet has decided to provide support to the Hellenic Republic in response to its request for humanitarian assistance and to contribute to the settlement of the effects of the refugee crisis in Europe.

‘We must help Greece, as it is currently under the greatest pressure of illegal migration. It is our duty as a state to contribute jointly to the challenges of protecting the EU’s external border, which are relevant to the European Union as a whole, in accordance with the principles of international and humanitarian law’, said Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis.

Lithuania plans to send material supplies (tents, beds, sleeping bags, pillows and footwear) for a total purchase value of EUR 79 639.39, as well as EUR 50 000 in financial support from the Government reserve to deal with the humanitarian refugee crisis in Greece.
