Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius welcomes the Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius has met with Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland, David Noonan, embarking on his diplomatic mission in Lithuania, to discuss the current bilateral relations and possibilities for further development of economic cooperation, need for bilateral investment, as well as the latest geopolitical issues.

“I am glad to welcome you in Lithuania. I am pleased to note that Lithuania and Ireland are like-minded countries on many issues, and we have been close partners in bilateral and international forums. I am sure we will be able to take our cooperation further while you are here in Vilnius”, said the Prime Minister.

In the first half of 2014, the Irish direct investment in Lithuania amounted to LTL 328.6 million, placing the country 22nd by the size of foreign direct investment in Lithuania. The Head of Government has pointed out that the growing political confidence should provide momentum for stronger economic cooperation.

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius and Irish Ambassador, David Noonan, have also given time to discuss the crisis in Ukraine, Klaipėda liquefied natural gas terminal that happens to launch its operation today, and the Lithuanian community in Ireland, which will be celebrating its 10th anniversary next year.
