Prime Minister: China is our most important trading partner in Asia

Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis met with Ambassador of People’s Republic of China Zhifei Shen to discuss bilateral cooperation and other issues of relevance.

The Prime Minister pointed out Lithuania’s interest in further constructive relations with China in the areas of politics, economics and cultural exchanges. The Prime Minister noted particularly the areas of freight transit, agriculture, financial technologies, tourism, science and culture.

‘China is definitely our most important trading partner in Asia. The cooperation between Lithuania and China in the field of agriculture is of particular significance, and we regard this country as one of the priority export markets for Lithuanian food industry. We hope to give boost to food (especially wheat) exports from Lithuania’, said Skvernelis.

Last year, Lithuania-China trade turnover increased to 4.2 per cent (to EUR 1 044 billion), Lithuania’s exports to China grew by 5.52 per cent accounting for EUR 189 million, products of Lithuanian origin - 7.9 per cent (EUR 141 million). Almost 12 per cent from Lithuania’s total exports to China are high-tech products. China’s imports increased by 3.94 per cent and amounted to EUR 855 million.
