Prime Minister congratulates the President of the European Parliament on the prestigious European policy award

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius has extended sincere congratulations to President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, on winning the outstanding award ¬– the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen 2015, informally also called the Oscar of European policy, for the outstanding leadership in uniting and consolidating the European Union.

“Dear colleague, the Charlemagne Prize is a great achievement for a man and a strong message to the world that the European Union stands tall for its principles and commitments in the face of the geopolitical threats. Please accept my sincere greetings on this occasion“, reads Prime Minister’s letter.

In his letter, the Head of Government notes that Lithuania is ready to continue to fully contribute to the Community's prosperity and strengthen it by all possible means, to make any European country to become a safe and prosperous European community possible. “I am certain that through our shared values and increasing partnership we will be able to achieve these noble goals“, says Prime Minister’s letter.

The International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen has been awarded annually since 1950 by the German city of Aachen to people who contributed to the ideals upon which it has been founded. In the war-torn Europe, it became a symbolic invitation to unity, solidarity and mutual understanding of the peoples of Europe.
