Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has extended greetings on behalf of the Government and the people of Lithuania to Germany celebrating its national holiday, the German Unity Day.
‘There are no doubts whatsoever that the fall of the Berlin Wall and the unification of Germany have changed Europe forever and opened up historic opportunities for peaceful and democratic development. As an ardent advocate for closer relations between the people and the states of Europe, Germany and its leadership is particularly important now that Germany is presiding over the Council of the European Union. The Lithuanian Government is ready to continue its close cooperation with Germany, both in ensuring common European response to the COVID-19 challenge and in supporting the aspirations of the Belarusian people to decide on the future of their country in democratic and fair elections that meet international standards’, said the Prime Minister.
The Head of Government has expressed appreciation of Germany’s leading role in NATO forward presence in Lithuania, which is contributing to closer cooperation between the Alliance members. The Prime Minister has also noted that the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of the diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Germany next year will open up new opportunities for cultural and economic cooperation and strengthen the friendly relations between the two nations.
