The importance of the EU investment and cohesion policies have been discussed by Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and European Commissioner for regional policy, Corina Cretu.

“Lithuania is a country largely relying on European Union’s investment as regards its growth and rising quality of life. The effective absorption of EU funds brings about significant changes in our national economy and social life. Therefore, we will continue the successful trend of investing in priority areas. And we will focus more on a balanced development across Lithuanian regions”, said the Prime Minister.

The meeting with the European Commissioner has also had on its agenda the current and post 2020 Cohesion policy and its impact on Lithuania, which, according to the Prime Minister, has a great added value for the country. This policy covers hundreds of thousands of projects carried out across Europe, and financially fed from the EU structural funds.

The Head of the Government has also pointed out the need for the new MFF proposal to be based on the principles of added value for Europe and solidarity, the EU budget should be result-oriented.
