Prime Minister to Honorary Consuls: you are Lithuania’s strength and voice around the world
From building economic and cultural ties to strengthening security dialogue and supporting Ukraine, Lithuania’s Honorary Consuls play a vital role in sharing our values and positions across the globe and forging meaningful new partnerships, said Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas.
On Monday, the Prime Minister met with the Honorary Consuls visiting Vilnius and thanked them for their important work—both in neighbouring countries and in the farthest corners of the world.
‘You represent Lithuania’s voice, values, and vision in every corner of the world. You help build the alliances, partnerships, and trust that allow our nation to grow stronger and more secure. Thank you for your ongoing commitment. Thank you for being Lithuania’s champions abroad. Let us continue working together to expand our reach, strengthen our influence, and unlock new opportunities for the benefit of our citizens and our shared future,’ said the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Paluckas spoke about Lithuania’s increased defence funding, its focus on security, and close cooperation with allies and like-minded nations—both in the region and within European and transatlantic frameworks.
The Prime Minister noted the strategic partnership with the United States—not only in defence but also in energy and other key areas—as well as Lithuania’s particularly strong relationship with Germany. He also highlighted the solidarity of the Nordic-Baltic cooperation (NB8), the shared values and interests, and the importance of coordinated action in the face of regional challenges. The Prime Minister also pointed out Lithuania’s partnership with Poland as a cornerstone of shared security and prosperity.
Growing opportunities were mentioned as regards cooperation with the Indo-Pacific region, especially with like-minded countries such as Japan and South Korea, also other rapidly developing parts of the world.
The Prime Minister placed special emphasis on economic diplomacy, where Honorary Consuls play a key role.
‘Economic diplomacy is more than just a tool—it is a national mission. Lithuania is an open, export-driven economy with one of the fastest-growing high-tech sectors in the EU. Our businesses are innovative, resilient, and ambitious. But they need new markets, international partners, and access to global capital, talent, and ideas,’ he said.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Consuls and invited them to continue exploring new opportunities together—in trade, investment, technology, and academic exchange—at the same time highlighting the importance of keeping ties with Lithuanian diaspora abroad.
The meeting was also attended by Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys and Minister of the Economy and Innovation Lukas Savickas, who, together with the Prime Minister took questions and shared insights on Lithuania’s foreign policy and economic diplomacy priorities, current EU issues, global competitiveness, and Lithuania’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027.
