Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has extended greetings on behalf of the Government and the people of Lithuania to Chancellor Angela Merkel and the people of Germany on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

According to the Prime Minister, this is a very important event for our nations having brought about the reunification of Germany and Europe.

‘We are proud that the Baltic Way, which has just marked its 30th anniversary, was part of the same liberation march. We will never forget the determination and sacrifice of the people of that time, which opened up opportunities for future generations to freely build a future based on democracy and prosperity. I have no doubt that Lithuania and Germany will remain particularly close allies in the European Union and NATO with ever stronger ties between our people’, said the Prime Minister in his letter of greetings.
