An official Georgian delegation led by Prime Minister Nika Gilauri is to visit Lithuania on 2-3 September. “This is a first visit by a Georgian Prime Minister in 16 years since re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and Lithuania”, said Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius. Top Lithuanian leaders and officials have been consistently pursuing a policy of strong support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and its aspirations for the Euro-Atlantic integration. “Lithuania’s support for the fundamental values remains firm and steadfast. This visit of the Georgian delegation led by the Prime Minister shows that we have been moving towards closer economic ties through our intense political cooperation”, said Prime Minister Kubilius.

Data released by the Lithuanian Department of Statistics earlier today has confirmed that GDP Q2 growth was 1.1 per cent up against the same period last year, and 6.6 per cent up against the Q1 this year. "I am pleased with the results of the ongoing economic recovery, proving that we are on the right track, and that the Lithuanian economy is climbing out of the recession, and, finally, that our economic stimulus plan is working. It will certainly require our further steadfast efforts and time to tame current unemployment and budget deficit. Then, the bare statistic figures of growth will translate into palpable results for the population."- said Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius welcomes the declaration issued 70 years ago by Sumner Welles, then Acting United States Secretary of State, which condemned the annexation of the Baltic States by the Soviet Union and established the 50-year-long U.S. policy of the non-recognition of the Soviet occupation of the Baltic States. In the Prime Minister‘s opinion, this policy was of paramount importance to Lithuanian people by giving them the power to endure and a hope for freedom and restoration of national independence; following the restoration of its independence Lithuania became a staunch ally of America and a firm supporter of Atlanticism (mostly because of the U.S. non-recognition policy).

Energy Independence and Reduces Gas Prices
At the sitting on Wednesday, the Government adopted a decision to construct a liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal in Klaipėda. The public company “Klaipėdos nafta” was chosen as the main terminal building tool. The proposed capacity for the LNG terminal would be 3 billion cubic metres a year. “This decision is very important, however, it is not the only step in realizing the Government\`s strategy to seek full energy independence”, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius pointed out. He noted that the construction of the terminal was directly related to the implementation of the European Union directive known as third energy package in Lithuania, announced by the Government in May.
Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius expressed his delight at the conclusion of the largest business deal over the twenty years of the independence, pointing out that the Lithuanian education and the consistent government policy to attract foreign investment were largely to be credited for this achievement, as he met David Eansor Norman, Head of the Biosciences Unit of the Thermo Fisher Scientific. The company recently finalized the deal signed in June about the acquisition of the Lithuanian biotechnology company Fermentas International.
The Lithuanian Government and ultimately the taxpayers of Lithuania, is the largest owner of commercial assets in the country. Each taxpayer in this country has a share in this portfolio worth around LIT 16.000 per person. Together we are now turning the page on the management of this common asset by publishing this Annual Review. This is the first step, in obtaining a map over this portfolio so that we will be able to take serious steps towards a more professional management of these commercial assets. The meeting focused on bilateral and multilateral relations, prospects for economic and commercial cooperation, cultural and educational issues, and, last but not least, relationship with the Jewish community. Liberman noted, the current intensively developing bilateral relations between Lithuania and Israel are excellent. “It is high time we translated our excellent bilateral relations into excellent economic and trade relations”, the Minister said.
