Meeting with Nordic-Baltic Ambassadors: Prime Minister calls for deeper regional partnership
On Monday, Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė welcomed the Ambassadors of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) countries at the Office of the Government to thank them for the warm hospitality and productive discussions during her recent bilateral visits to Latvia, Estonia, Norway, and Iceland, also to discuss the upcoming visits to the other NB8 member states.
“The Nordic-Baltic Eight is a model of responsible leadership in defence and security, as well as in firm support for Ukraine. Our ties are rooted not only in geographic proximity, but above all in a shared commitment to the same values. That bond calls on us not merely to continue but to deepen our cooperation, making our countries safer and more prosperous,” Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė said.
The discussion focused on joint efforts to strengthen resilience to hybrid threats, particularly in addressing controband balloons coming from Belarus, also in securing critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, and reinforcing the protection of the European Union’s external borders.
The participants also stressed the importance of continuing to mobilise allies and partners to increase support for Ukraine, helping both Ukraine and Moldova become full members of the European Union as early as possible, and maintaining pressure on aggressor Russia, including through sanctions.
The Prime Minister noted that a close transatlantic partnership, grounded in shared interests, constructive dialogue, and a responsible approach to collective security, was essential in the face of the current challenges.
To ensure that NATO remains the strongest and most successful alliance in history, Europe must be a strong and equal partner to the United States, Prime Minister Ruginienė said.
Concluding the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the fact that meetings with NB8 ambassadors are becoming an established tradition and reaffirmed Lithuania’s commitment to maintaining close cooperation with its particularly close regional partners.
