Prime Minister: Baltic Unity Is More Than a Declaration—It Is Guarantee of our Strength
Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius extended his greetings to Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs and to the people of Latvia and Lithuania on the occasion of Baltic Unity Day.
“Today, Lithuanians and Latvians celebrate a special occasion—Baltic Unity Day. September 22, 1236, bears witness to the glorious victory in the Battle of Saule, when united Baltic tribes defeated the Livonian Brothers of the Sword. At that time, we proved to ourselves and to the entire world that unity, courage, and dedication are among our fundamental values.
Through the many upheavals of history, our hardworking and creative people have susseeded to build independent states, and we continue to cherish the long-standing traditions of friendship, close neighbourly ties, and solidarity between our two nations.
Today, however, we face a geopolitical environment marked by uncertainty and growing threats. The values forged and tested throughout our history are therefore more important than ever. We have a duty to keep strengthening the partnership between our countries. Thus we must deepen cooperation across the fields— from the economy and defence to culture and the study of our Baltic languages. The unity and solidarity of the Latvian and Lithuanian peoples are more than a declaration—they are a guarantee of our strength,” said Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius.
