Prime Minister Meets Speaker of the Polish Sejm

In Warsaw, Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius met with Włodzimierz Czarzasty, Marshal of the Polish Sejm. Their talks focused on strengthening the countries’ strategic partnership, security and support for Ukraine.

“Over the centuries of our shared history, Lithuania and Poland have repeatedly stood up to aggression and pressure from the east. Security remains a priority in our bilateral cooperation, and strengthening it requires us to stand shoulder to shoulder. But our strategic partnership extends far beyond security - it also encompasses energy, transport links, culture and trade. There is still untapped potential to further strengthen our ties,” Prime Minister Sinkevičius said.

The meeting highlighted the importance of Lithuanian-Polish cooperation in implementing regional infrastructure projects such as Rail Baltica and Via Baltica. Last week also saw an important milestone in the development of the Harmony Link interconnector.

As Lithuania prepares to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2027, security, support for Ukraine and economic competitiveness will be among its key priorities - areas in which Lithuania and Poland share a common understanding of their importance.

As the Prime Minister stressed, Ukraine’s security is closely linked to the security of the entire region and Europe. Support for Ukraine is becoming even more important as winter approaches and Russia continues its deliberate attacks on energy facilities and other civilian infrastructure.
