Prime Minister Meets with Foreign Women Ambassadors

Today, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė had a discussion with foreign women ambassadors residing in Vilnius.

At the invitation of the ambassadors, the Prime Minister shared her experience in Lithuanian politics and the major challenges faced by the 18th Lithuanian Government during its term of office. The topics discussed included Russia's war against Ukraine and hybrid aggression against Lithuania and other Western countries, the need to support Ukraine - defending the freedom of us all - until victory, the Lukashenko regime's hybrid attack through the orchestration of illegal migration across the Lithuanian border, the Covid-19 pandemic, etc.

"One could say that nowadays we live in the times of “emocracy”, not democracy. Tools like social networks now make it possible to emotionally influence vast audiences, spread falsehoods, and create emotion-based connections that cannot be overcome by fact-based arguments," I. Šimonytė said, reflecting on the challenges of the modern world in order to distinguish between deliberately disseminated information and emotions, and real facts, freedom of speech or personal opinions.

Ambassadors of Ireland, Denmark, Israel, the United States, Canada, Latvia, France, Romania, Spain and Sakartvelo discussed with the Prime Minister the challenges that the new Lithuanian government elected this autumn may face next year, the Prime Minister's recent visit to Ukraine, economic security, civil protection, and other issues. The discussion focused on the challenges of the government's work in navigating between different poles of opinion and interest, seeking compromises and solutions to problems that are as objective as possible and that best meet the legitimate expectations of the groups concerned.

"There are problems in various areas that generate frequent heated discussions. But when you look around and pay attention to certain things, you have to admit that we are living better now than ever before," the Prime Minister concluded.
