Prime Minister meets with German Ambassador: our strength lies in unity
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė met with German Ambassador to Lithuania, Cornelius Zimmermann, to discuss the close security and defence cooperation between Lithuania and Germany, the importance of a unified European response to hybrid attacks, and the development of the defence industry.
‘The audacity, scale, and reach of Russia’s hybrid attacks, carried out with its accomplice Belarus, will only grow if the aggressors believe we are incapable of defending ourselves, responding effectively, or acting in unity. That is why close cooperation between our countries and regional solidarity are essential to protect our people, our airspace, and every area targeted by hostile regimes,’ said Prime Minister Ruginienė.
The meeting also addressed deliberate disruptions to international civil aviation in Lithuania caused by weather balloons used for smuggling, and Belarus’s role in these incidents.
The Prime Minister emphasized that she greatly values Lithuania’s partnership with Germany, both as allies and like-minded friends. The clearest example of this is the deployment of a German brigade in Lithuania through 2027, which remains a firm priority for the Government.
The discussion also covered cooperation in the defence industry, which is critical both for regional security and for economic growth. The Prime Minister expressed hope that mutually beneficial projects, such as the Rheinmetall ammunition factory in the Radviliškis district, will continue to grow in number, adding that Lithuania is ready to offer favourable conditions for such collaboration.
