Chancellor of the Government: relations with South Korea are based on the same values and democratic principles
Chancellor of the Government Giedrė Balčytytė has met with a delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and has discussed bilateral cooperation.
The Chancellor of the Government has welcomed the excellent relations based on respect for the same core values and democratic principles. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. With a view to further strengthening political and economic relations with the Republic of Korea, the Government of Lithuania has decided to open an embassy in Seoul on 1 September 2021.
‘Close cooperation with South Korea means, first and foremost, a large market for Lithuania’s businesses and new jobs in the field of high technologies. Creating an economy based on innovations and high value-added activities is one of Lithuania’s strategic objectives,’ said Chancellor Balčytytė.
The Chancellor of the Government has invited a business delegation from South Korea to visit Lithuania.
The response to the coronavirus and the pandemic has been discussed. Lithuania is closely following South Korea’s actions to control the spread of the coronavirus. COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing is a promising area for cooperation. With South Korea getting ready for vaccine manufacturing, Lithuania is interested in participating in the supply of components or in R&D activities.
The meeting has welcomed the recently signed Agreement on Cooperation in the Fields of Culture, Education, and Science, which will undoubtedly contribute to closer bilateral relations. Negotiations on the Working Holiday Agreement are expected to be concluded in the near future.
