In her meeting with Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi Prime Minister expresses gratitude for her long-standing support in strengthening regional security

At the Munich Security Conference, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has met with Nancy Pelosi, Member of the US House of Representatives, to thank her for her personal contribution to the strengthening of security in Lithuania and the region, and for the leadership of the United States in supporting Ukraine. 

The meeting focused on the strengthening of the transatlantic security, the challenge of autocracies to democracies and the rules-based world order, Russia’s war in Ukraine and support for Ukraine.

‘The United States plays a vital role in strengthening the security of our region, and we greatly appreciate your personal contributions in this area over the years. Today, Western unity and US leadership in support of Ukraine are preventing Russian aggression from spreading further into Europe. as only a Ukrainian victory can restore sustainable peace in Europe and deter aggressors from encroaching on the rule-based world order,’ said Prime Minister Šimonytė.

According to the Prime Minister, the presence of the US and other NATO allies in the Baltic States is an essential element of the region’s security, reinforcing collective defence commitments and ensuring credible deterrence.

It is also important to cooperate with democratic partners in the Asia-Pacific region and keep up the solidarity of democracies in upholding a rules-based international order in the face of the challenge of autocracies.
