Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has extended congratulations to Kaja Kallas on the formation of the new Government and her appointment as Prime Minister of Estonia.

‘Relations between Lithuania and Estonia are in an excellent shape, and I trust that we will continue to do our best to keep it that way by means of continued focus on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in various international organisations and fora,’ reads the Prime Minister’s letter.

This year, Lithuania presides over the Baltic Council of Ministers. According to Šimonytė, Lithuania will seek continuity on all issues that are important to our countries and to the region as a whole, including the coordinated response to the COVID-19 pandemic, security and defence, digital transformation, combatting cyber-threats and disinformation, green agenda, timely implementation of the strategic energy and transport projects, and nuclear safety.

In view of the events in Belarus, Lithuania wants to draw special attention to the issue of supporting the people of Belarus in their plight for freedom and democracy. Šimonytė says she is convinced that practical initiatives will be launched to support this goal. The first meeting of the Baltic Prime Ministers is expected to be held in late February or early March.

The Head of the Lithuanian Government has wished Prime Minister Kallas every success in her new position.
