Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has had a remote meeting with Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison and has discussed bilateral cooperation.

‘Lithuania and Australia are linked by trade, academic, cultural, sports, and tourism ties. We aim at further consolidation of the bilateral relationship. An important element is the large Lithuanian community,’ said the Prime Minister.

Lithuania-Australia economic cooperation has been growing steadily. There is potential in high value-added sectors, such as lasers, life sciences, and information and communication technologies. Lithuania is ready to develop relations between science and education institutions.

‘We hope to start negotiations on a Double Taxation Agreement. The agreement should facilitate trade flows, which is important with a view to ensuring economic recovery after the pandemic, and deepening bilateral economic relations between Lithuania and Australia,’ said the Prime Minister.

Candidates, including an Australian one, for the post of Secretary-General of the OECD have been discussed.
