Prime Minister extends congratulations to Moldova’s new Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has extended congratulations to Natalia Gavrilița on her appointment as Head of Government of Moldova.

‘The landslide victory of the Action and Solidarity Party in the parliamentary elections is a clear sign that the Moldovan people want democratic change, transparent governance, and European reforms. I sincerely welcome the victory and the appointment of your Government. I wish you perseverance and success – hard work awaits. Lithuania has supported and will continue to support Moldova. We are ready to continue to provide expert assistance to step up Moldova’s European integration and to mobilise support for Moldova,’ has emphasised the Prime Minister.

Šimonytė has underlined that both countries share similar history, common challenges, and deepfelt mutual support. Moldova’s bravery to be the first nation to recognise Lithuania’s independence in May 1990 was and remains truly appreciated in Lithuania – it has secured a very special place for Moldova and its people in Lithuanian hearts.

‘I am certain that the friendship between Moldova and Lithuania will continue to grow and bear fruit as we approach the 30th anniversary since the establishment of our diplomatic relations next year, and for many years to come,’ said the Head of Government.

The Prime Minister has expressed her delight that 26 500 vaccine doses from Lithuania will reach Moldova on Wednesday in assistance to the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
