On behalf of the people and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has extended congratulations to Vice President of the United States of America Kamala Harris on her historic inauguration, and has wished the new Administration and Vice President personally strength and success.

‘This occasion reminds us about the great value of friendship and freedom of our people and our nations. It also reminds us of a long-lasting relationship between the United States of America and Lithuania that is reinforced by a sizeable and vibrant Lithuanian American community. These ties are strengthened every day by steps, small and big, that we take in the realms of political dialogue, security and defense, energy and economic cooperation, and many more,’ reads the Prime Minister’s letter.

The Head of Government has thanked the United States for its unwavering support for Lithuania’s plight for freedom.

The US had refused to recognize the occupation of the Baltic states and continued to do so until the restoration of Lithuania’s independence in 1990. The Prime Minister has expressed gratitude for the swift response by the United States, together with NATO Allies, in ensuring security in Lithuania and the region.

The Head of Government has invited the Vice President of the United States to pay a visit to Lithuania when the conditions of the pandemic allow.
