On behalf of the people and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė extends sincere greetings to Latvia on the 31st anniversary of the Declaration on the Restoration of Independence.
‘The restoration of Latvia’s independence and the remarkable achievements since then is a model of perseverance against great odds in the cause of freedom. Today our two nations are very close friends and allies, working together in strengthening the EU and NATO, sharing responsibility for regional security, and aiming for a Europe that is whole and free. Today our close partnership is being strengthened by concrete initiatives, infrastructure projects, economic and cultural cooperation, and people-to-people contacts. I am proud to see that Lithuanians and Latvians show more and more interests in each other country’s history, culture, and traditions, many of which we share. I am certain that the bonds between our two countries will grow ever stronger,’ reads the Prime Minister’s letter.
