Prime Minister meets Minister-President of Hessen: every connection with Germany is of great importance to us

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas met with Boris Rhein, Minister-President of the of the German Federal State of Hesse.

“Every connection with Germany— whether at the national level or with federal states like Hesse—is very important to Lithuania. Close cooperation in the fields of defence and security, economic and business ties, cultural and scientific exchange means more opportunities for our people, and greater prosperity, security, and stability for our countries,” said Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas.

The parties emphasized the particularly close cooperation between Lithuania and Germany in security, which will reach a new symbolic milestone tomorrow with the official inauguration of the German brigade stationed in Lithuania. As noted in the discussion, this marks a historically significant moment for both nations.

One of the Government's priorities, said Prime Minister Paluckas, is to ensure the smooth and efficient integration of the German brigade by the end of 2027—meeting all the needs of allied troops to the highest standards.

The Prime Minister also pointed out the importance of German investments in Lithuania and joint projects in the defence industry, such as the future Rheinmetall factory in Baisogala. This is a smart and rational path of cooperation both in terms of security and economy, he said.

The meeting also reaffirmed the value of partnerships between like-minded countries and the importance of continued support for Ukraine.
