Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė met with Katharina von Schnurbein, European Commission Coordinator on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life, at the Kaunas Litvak Culture Forum, to discuss the 2021-2030 EU Strategy on Combating Anti-Semitism and Fostering Jewish Life and Lithuania’s actions to implement it.

The Prime Minister told the guest about changes in the general education curricula, the increasing involvement of the younger generation in remembering and commemorating important events in Lithuania’s history, and their participation in global history lessons in the places where tragedies occurred.

‘Our Government adheres to zero tolerance policy towards any manifestations of anti-Semitism, Holocaust denial or disrespect for the victims of the Holocaust’, stressed the Prime Minister.

The parties also talked about the preservation of the heritage of Lithuanian Jews, including the management of historic sites relevant to Lithuania’s culture and the integration of the symbolic significance of these sites.

Katharina von Schnurbein was appointed European Commission’s first Coordinator on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life in 2015.
