Prime Minister met with President of Switzerland and Prime Minister of the Czech Republic

On July 4, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, attending the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Lugano, met with Ignazio Cassis, President of Switzerland, the country hosting the Conference, and Petr Fiala, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, which has just taken over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. 

During the meeting with President of Switzerland, Prime Minister underlined excellent bilateral relations between Lithuania and Switzerland and discussed the European security situation, which changed dramatically because of the Russia's war against Ukraine. Ms Šimonytė emphasized the importance of a united European response by imposing sanctions on Russia and mobilising support for Ukraine, the importance of Europe's energy independence and the need to keep on pursuing the goals of green transformation.  

Ms Šimonytė welcomed the Swiss-organised Ukraine Recovery Conference, which contributes to mobilisation, coordination and transparency of international donor efforts.   

In the meeting with Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala, Head of the Government of Lithuania congratulated the Czech Republic on taking over the Presidency of the Council of the EU.  

According to Ms Šimonytė, focusing on the reconstruction of war-torn Ukraine, support for Ukraine and Moldova to start EU membership talks, strengthening the Eastern Partnership countries, enhancing Europe's strategic economic resilience and energy security are some of the priorities on Lithuania's EU agenda as well. 

Prime has thanked the Czech Republic for its contribution to the security of the Baltic region.
