Prime Minister sends message of greetings to Japan’s new Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba

On behalf of the Government and the people of Lithuania, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has sent a message of greetings to Shigeru Ishiba on his appointment as Japan’s new Prime Minister.

‘Allow me to acknowledge the excellent bilateral relations between our countries. We are interested in further developing our strategic partnership with Japan as a key partner of Lithuania, as well as strengthening and expanding economic cooperation and people-to-people ties. Lithuania places a high priority on strengthening ties with Japan and other countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

Today, in the face of Russia's brutal war in Ukraine and the rise of authoritarian regimes around the world, maintaining the partnership between our two countries and societies, and jointly preserving and promoting democratic values, is more important than ever.

We are grateful to Japan for its firm and principled stance and support for Ukraine, which brings Ukraine closer to victory and peace and only further unites us all,’ reads Prime Minister’s letter.
