Prime Minister Speaks with Polish President: Lithuania’s Priority Is Stronger Strategic Partnership
During a telephone conversation with Polish President Karol Nawrocki on Wednesday, Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius emphasised Lithuania’s commitment to further strengthening its strategic partnership with Poland.
Lithuania regards Poland as an indispensable ally, a strategic partner and a neighbouring country linked by a shared history. In his conversation with President Karol Nawrocki, Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius expressed Lithuania’s interest in deepening bilateral relations and discussed regional security, support for Ukraine and other current issues with the Polish leader.
“Today, the words of Pope John Paul II remain especially relevant: our nations are united by ties of neighbourliness, friendship and brotherhood. The challenges we face together oblige us to work jointly for the security and prosperity of our region, while our shared history reminds us that this is not only possible – it is precisely what we should strive for. Further strengthening our strategic partnership with Poland is a central objective of my Government,” said Prime Minister Sinkevičius.
The discussion focused primarily on security and defence issues. In the bilateral agenda, the Government will devote particular attention not only to this area but also to the resilience of energy and other critical infrastructure, transport and military mobility projects, economic ties – which are already strong but have further potential for growth – and cultural exchanges.
The Prime Minister noted that, as Russia continues its military aggression against Ukraine and remains a threat to the security of Europe as a whole, it is essential to maintain active support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia.
Mr Sinkevičius also stressed the importance of close coordination between the two countries in responding to both conventional and hybrid threats, as well as the importance of strong transatlantic relations.
