27 January will mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 76th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė emphasises that the horrors of the Holocaust have brought tragedy to the entire humanity.
‘Today, we pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust. Today, we remember. And not only today it is important not to forget the virus of hate that constantly threatens to invade our lives, and that showed 80 years ago that immense darkness could overcome people’s hearts. The horrors of the Holocaust have brought tragedy to the entire humanity. That tragedy has impoverished us all, and has revealed at the same time that we must daily weed out seeds of hate from our hearts,’ says the Prime Minister.
