Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė is sending a message of greetings, on behalf of the Government and the people of Lithuania, to Australia celebrating its National Day.
‘Our countries share common values and take a similar stance on freedom, individual liberty, human rights, equality, rule of law, and rules-based international order. The Lithuanian diaspora in Australia is another strong link between our countries.
Lithuania attaches a high priority to the strengthening of the ties with Australia and the countries in the Indo-Pacific region. It is with delight that I note our ever-growing cooperation across all the areas, not only in economy and innovation, culture, and education, but also in cybersecurity so as to better respond to global hybrid threats.
Today the democratic world is facing the biggest test to its values and our security. A premeditated Russian invasion of Ukraine with the help from Belarus, shows an urgent need for the democratic nations to stay united and to help Ukraine with all the possible means.
I am certain that by acting together, we will not only help to overcome this evil but will also strengthen the values of freedom and democracy.
This year is of particular importance to Lithuania as it is getting ready to host a Vilnius NATO Summit in July, which is to address issues of paramount significance to the regional security, including the ways to strengthen cooperation between the NATO and Asia-Pacific partners,’ reads Prime Minister’s message of greetings.
