Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has extended her greetings to Canada on the National Day and her best wishes for continued success and prosperity of the country.

‘I am very pleased about the close cooperation between our countries, particularly in the fields of security and defence. We highly appreciate your country’s contribution to the security of our region - the Canadian troops are leading the NATO enhanced forward presence Battle Group in Latvia and has military personnel seconded to the NATO Force Integration Unit in Vilnius’, reads Prime Minister’s letter.

The Prime Minister has also thanked the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau for his active involvement in mobilising support for the Eastern Partnership countries: reforms in Ukraine, civil society in Belarus and Russia.

Lithuania and Canada are marking the 30th anniversary of the restoration of the diplomatic relations this year, and, according to the Prime Minister, it serves a great opportunity to meet and celebrate the occasion. Ingrida Šimonytė has invited Canada’s Prime Minister to visit Lithuania in the near future.
