Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has sent Independence Day greetings to the United States.
‘Our countries are closely tied together by the shared ideals of freedom, individual liberty, human rights, equality, rule of law, the rules-based international order. Our nations are the strongest when these shared values are ensured not only in our countries but also in our neighbourhoods and in the entire world. Therefore, Lithuania stands ready to work with the United States so that there is more freedom and more democracy in the eastern EU neighbourhood and around the world’, reads the letter.
According to the Prime Minister, there is no alternative for a close Europe-U.S. cooperation in addressing global economic, security, health, and other challenges. Ingrida Šimonytė has expressed her firm belief that the countries will continue working closely together in strengthening NATO and in enhancing the renewed Trans-Atlantic partnership.
“Almost one million Americans of Lithuanian descent and close people-to-people contacts form the strong link between the two freedom-loving nations. I am sure that, as allies, we will continue strengthening our friendship and strategic partnership. I hope that in the near future we could meet in person to discuss issues that are important to our countries’, says the Prime Minister.
In her letter addressed to US Vice-President Kamala Harris, Ingrida Šimonytė, among other things, has expressed hope for a meeting to discuss issues of mutual relevance.
The Prime Minister has concluded her letter by wishing the people of the United States every success and prosperity.
