The Chancellor of the Government Discussed Sharing Lithuania's Expertise in Crisis Management with Moldova

Lithuania is planning to support Moldova in the development and implementation of a crisis management system and to share experience in combating hybrid threats and disinformation. This was discussed at a meeting between the Chancellor of the Government Giedrė Balčytytė and Moldova's Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatîi on 16 October. During the meeting, they also discussed Russia's war in Ukraine and its impact on Moldova and regional security.

"Lithuania will continue to support Moldova on the path of Euro-integration chosen by its people. We are ready to share our expertise and practical experience to ensure that democratic Moldova follows this path as quickly and smoothly as possible. Lithuania's crisis management model could be another successful example of bilateral cooperation - we believe that the institutional changes that have worked well for Lithuania would be useful and transferable to strengthen Moldova's resilience and security," said the Chancellor of the Government, G. Balčytytė.

As the Chancellor of the Government noted, in updating the crisis management model and establishing the National Crisis Management Centre, Lithuania has prioritised continuous monitoring of threats using real-time data, professional analysis and inter-agency coordination. The challenges facing Moldova are familiar to Lithuania, and Lithuania's experience could be particularly relevant for Moldova.

The meeting also discussed resistance to hostile disinformation aimed at fostering distrust in democratic institutions, public discord, and other means of Russian pressure and external interference.

The Moldovan Minister of Defence briefed the Chancellor on the security situation in the country, including the Transnistrian region, and the impact of Russia's aggression against Ukraine on Moldova.

The Chancellor noted that, even in the face of extreme challenges, Moldova has stood up well to hostile hybrid attacks, maintaining a values-based foreign policy and making progress on the country's Euro-integration agenda.
