The Prime Minister Extends Congratulations on the Anniversary of Lithuania’s EU Membership

Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė has extended her greetings to the people of Lithuania on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of Lithuania’s membership of the European Union.

“On this special occasion, I would like to warmly congratulate you as today we mark the anniversary of Lithuania’s membership of the European Union. This is not only a political decision taken more than two decades ago, but also a choice of values: to be part of a free, democratic and united Europe.

Over this time, Lithuania has grown stronger. We have built our economy, strengthened our state, and matured as a society. Most importantly, however, we have never been alone. The European Union is not only a single market or financial support for us. It is a community in which we share responsibility, security and a vision for the future.

Today, as war continues in Ukraine and geopolitical tensions are rising across the world, we understand particularly clearly the importance of unity. Europe’s strength lies in our ability to act together. When we stand united, we can defend freedom, support those fighting for it, and ensure security for our people.

Lithuania has always stood, and will continue to stand, firmly on the side of freedom. We support Ukraine not only in words but also in actions – together with our partners in Europe. We must remain united and strengthen our resilience to disinformation and hybrid threats, safeguarding our democracy and our trust in one another.

Each of us is part of this Europe. Our daily work, our belief in freedom and responsibility, all contribute to building our shared future. I therefore encourage everyone to value what we have and to further strengthen mutual trust.

Let us take pride in our European path and look confidently to the future.”
