Chancellor of the Government: restoration of Ukraine’s energy sector among Lithuania’s priorities
On Tuesday, Chancellor of the Government Giedrė Balčytytė has taken part in a consultation initiated by the Central Project Management Agency and Kurk Lietuvai (Create Lithuania), which has brought together representatives from Lithuania’s energy sector to identify opportunities and ways for Lithuania to engage in Ukraine’s energy restoration and development process.
‘Despite the ongoing destructive war by Russia against Ukraine, the country is not only actively reconstructing its civilian infrastructure but also laying out plans for its future development. The Lithuanian Government is prepared to listen to the observations and suggestions of ecosystem participants on what Lithuania can do in the short and long term. In this context, the feasibility study of the energy sector carried out by Create Lithuania also this event are valuable and timely,’ said Chancellor of the Government G. Balčytytė.
At the roundtable, the Chancellor has emphasized that Ukraine’s restoration will be a significant and crucial project in Europe in the coming decade. Lithuania, having initiated four bilateral restoration projects last year, is prepared to make a meaningful contribution.
In 2022, Lithuania undertook four pilot projects on a bilateral basis, encompassing the renovation of a kindergarten in Irpin, modernization of an electricity distribution network in Mykolayiv, renovation of a school, and construction of a mobile village for 36 families in Borodyanka. The latter has already been successfully completed and handed over to support the needs of Ukrainians affected by the war.
The Chancellor of the Government has underscored Ukraine’s energy sector as a high-priority area for restoration and recovery efforts, aiming to implement impactful and mutually beneficial projects.
