Lithuania steps up to help Moldova in developing a national crisis management model

The Chancellor of the Government, Giedrė Balčytytė, expressed Lithuania’s firm support for Moldova’s accelerated Euro-integration and offered assistance to Moldova in establishing a national crisis management framework, drawing from Lithuania’s successful experience.

Speaking at the 4th Conference of the Moldova Support Platform in Chișinău on 17 October, Chancellor Balčytytė noted that Moldova and its Euro-integration remain among the top priorities on Lithuania’s foreign policy and development cooperation agenda.

Amidst Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine, Moldova faced a number of challenges to its own national security, while also addressing mounting threats and hybrid pressures from abroad.

‘Despite the multitude of challenges posed by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, Moldova has demonstrated through concrete actions its commitment to a value-based policy and its European choice. An example for many countries to follow’, said the Government Chancellor at the Conference.

‘Looking ahead, it is important for Moldova to continue working on resilience of the population, including for hybrid scenarios. For that a country needs a well-functioning national crisis management centre and administrative capacities’, added Giedrė Balčytytė.

The Chancellor noted that Lithuania successfully implemented reforms and set up an exemplary national crisis management centre and is ready to share its experience and expertise with Moldova in analysing the applicability of institutional solutions, legal regulation, and jointly developing a reform strategy, also assisting in the establishment of a permanent threat monitoring system and introducing appropriate technologies.

This Conference is the fourth international event co-hosted by Foreign Ministers of France, Germany, and Romania to mobilise international aid to Moldova. This year’s Conference was attended by the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, French Foreign Minister, Catherine Colonna, foreign ministers or vice-ministers of other countries, and other officials - totalling representatives from over 50 countries and international organisations.
