Lithuanian and Swedish Prime Ministers: More Cooperation Means Greater Security for Our Countries
Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson discussed bilateral relations and regional cooperation, the strengthening of defence and security, and other issues of importance to both countries.
During their telephone conversation, the two leaders highlighted the excellent relations between Lithuania and Sweden, as well as their successful cooperation within the EU, NATO and the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) framework.
“The Baltic Sea does not divide Lithuania and Sweden – it connects us. It is a shared space of responsibility and common interests, linking our economies, infrastructure and societal ties. We face common security challenges, which is why it is essential to strengthen cooperation, make full use of the opportunities provided by the Nordic-Baltic Eight, reinforce our defence capabilities together, and continue supporting Ukraine. I am confident that we will work successfully in these areas for the benefit of our countries,” said Prime Minister M. Sinkevičius.
Lithuania sees significant potential in partnerships between the defence industries of the two countries, as well as in high-value sectors, the Prime Minister added.
The conversation also emphasised the importance of paying particular attention to the security of critical infrastructure. Support for Ukraine was discussed as well, with both sides stressing the need to maintain and strengthen that support.
