Lithuanian and UK experts share experience in the area of energy resilience

On April 13, Lithuania hosted a workshop organized by the UK on Baltic energy resilience. The National Crisis Management Centre contributed to the organization of this event. Experts from UK and Lithuanian public authorities and critical infrastructure companies exchanged experiences and discussed existing challenges in the area of energy resilience, along with the ways countries are addressing them. During the meeting, Lithuania’s strategic communications expertise and lessons learned in contributing to energy resilience were also presented.

“Energy resilience is one of the key priorities for ensuring national security. This issue has become even more relevant in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, as the aggressor is using energy as a tool to divide the unity of allies and influence their support for Ukraine. In this context, not only the technological issues of protecting energy infrastructure are relevant but also cybersecurity, strategic communication, and other issues. I am glad that the experts delved into all of this during the workshop," said Vilmantas Vitkauskas, Deputy Chancellor of the Government and Head of the National Crisis Management Centre.

The United Kingdom has initiated a project to strengthen the energy resilience of the Baltic Sea region and the interaction among the states within this context. The project has included a series of events in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. The information shared during these events will significantly contribute to increased understanding and cooperation between the countries on energy resilience issues.

Based on this information, several international exercises are foreseen to test national procedures and capacities for energy resilience and inter-state interoperability.
