Prime Minister expresses condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė expresses condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

‘It is with great sadness that I express my condolences on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Having ascended to the royal throne at just twenty-five, she has maintained her leadership with firmness and dignity for over seventy years, becoming a true symbol of nobility and devotion to her country far beyond her kingdom. The Queen has shown that it is not the post that makes a person great, but it is the greatness of a person that can give power and authority even to more symbolic titles and posts, as they may seem. Her courage, sense of responsibility and her ability to rally and represent her people inspire respect. Her Majesty’s deeds and legacy will undoubtedly loom large in the pages of the history of the world. The Queen is leaving together with the entire era that has been far from short of difficult tests and challenges, but there has been an agreement on the basic universal rules, and a unique world order.

May I offer our deepest condolences to the family of Queen Elizabeth II and to all the people of the United Kingdom. I would also like to express hope that the virtues and ideals Her majesty the Queen has embodied will remain relevant in the new era of the history of the world that is now emerging from the current upheavals’, reads Prime Minister’s letter of condolences.
