Prime Minister Expresses Support for Armenia's Quest for Peace and Security, Discusses Bilateral and EU-Armenia Relations with Speaker of the National Assembly
On Thursday, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė received the Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, at the Government, with whom she discussed the security situation in the South Caucasus region, bilateral Lithuanian-Armenian relations, and the opportunities to strengthen relations between the European Union and Armenia.
"We monitor the security situation in the South Caucasus with hope for sustainable peace and welcome Armenia's efforts to achieve it. We support closer Armenian ties with the EU, and I can assure you that Lithuania will continue to stand ready to assist in the implementation of Armenia's democratic reform agenda based on the principles of transparency and the rule of law," said Prime Minister Šimonytė.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed Lithuania's support for Armenia's efforts to normalise relations with neighbours as the only way to ensure peace and stability in the region and prosperity for Armenia.
The Head of Government welcomed the intensification of Lithuanian-EU relations with Armenia. Lithuania welcomes and supports the initiative to launch an EU visa dialogue with Armenia, the Prime Minister added.
I. Šimonytė noted that Lithuania will remain open to expanding the ongoing cooperation in strengthening Armenia's democratic resilience, cyber security, renewable energy and other important areas.
