Prime Minister has met with the representatives of Italian pharmaceutical companies in Rome
During her visit to the Republic of Italy, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė has met with the representatives of one of Italy's largest life sciences companies - the Menarini Group, the ReiThera Group, and the Bracco Group - and discussed opportunities for the development of bilateral cooperation in the fields of research and investment.
‘During the meeting, I presented Lithuania's investment potential, the fast-growing life sciences sector and Lithuania's life sciences ecosystem, infrastructure and advantages thereof. Lithuania's life sciences sector is particularly strong, generating two per cent of the country's gross domestic product, which is six times higher than the European Union average. The competences of Lithuanian companies can be attractive for partnership in the fields of research and development,’ noted the Prime Minister.
The specialisations of Lithuanian companies in the fields of biopharmaceuticals development and production, as well as the capacities of hospitals and laboratories to carry out high-level clinical trials were presented to the representatives of Italian companies. Italian companies were invited to cooperate with Lithuanian life sciences and research centres with a strong life sciences research infrastructure. The fast-growing start-ups and increasing investment in this sector were also highlighted.
Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė welcomed the active involvement of Italian companies and organisations in Life Sciences Baltics 2021, the largest specialised life sciences event in Northern Europe, organised in Lithuania. Italy will participate in the event on 20-24 September and present a national group of stands. The Prime Minister believes that this will contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation and will provide an opportunity for representatives of companies and scientific institutions from both countries to directly discuss potential joint projects.
