Prime Minister joins Brussels Declaration on Actions Towards Empowering Women in Conflicts

During the United Nations General Assembly’s event 'Women in Conflicts’ for young women working in conflict and post-conflict regions, which was held on 21 September in New York, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, along with 30 other national leaders, signed the Brussels Declaration on Actions towards Empowering Women in Conflicts (Brussels Declaration).

The Declaration was initiated by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the UN Women, Nadia’s Initiative, and the Dr Denis Mukwege Foundation. The Declaration was signed by Prime Ministers and Presidents from 31 countries, 21 of which are EU Member States.

The Declaration reaffirms commitments to protect women and girls in conflict, to empower them in conflict prevention, crisis management, conflict resolution and relief, recovery, and to effectively implement the Women, Peace and Security agenda, while condemning violations of international law and crimes committed against women and girls, including during the Russian war in Ukraine.
