Prime Minister: Lithuania Has Always Supported EU Enlargement and Bosnia and Herzegovina's European Choice

On Friday, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė met with the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović. This is the first official visit to Lithuania by a Head of State from this country since bilateral relations were established in 1992.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister congratulated Bosnia and Herzegovina on the EU's historic decision to open accession negotiations.

"No one has the right to stop a country that has chosen to move towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration, that seeks to become a full member of a community based on democratic values, respect for human rights and the rule of law. Lithuania has always supported EU enlargement and strongly supports Bosnia and Herzegovina's EU membership aspirations," the Lithuanian Prime Minister said. The Prime Minister underlined that European integration is the only way to the success, security and economic prosperity of the country and its people.

The meeting discussed the complex security situation in Europe, including Russia's war against Ukraine and its aggression against the entire democratic world, the need to support Ukraine's defense until victory, and the importance of defending the rules-based world order. The Prime Minister noted that Lithuania fully sees and understands the threats posed by Russia and the growing hybrid aggression against all democratic states, including Bosnia and Herzegovina.
